What's the best thing about working at Whittington Health?

The incredible people I work with and the flexibility I've been given. When I moved to the UK from southern India, I was anxious about adapting to a new workplace and culture. However, joining the Trust in May 2011 was a seamless experience, thanks to the unwavering support of my colleagues.

What I enjoy most is the autonomy the organisation provides for learning and implementing new ideas to improve the care we deliver to our community. This freedom allows us to continually strive to be the best in what we do. Whittington Health genuinely upholds its core values, fostering an environment of trust and innovation. Here, the motto ‘better never stops’ is not just a saying but a principle that guides our daily work.

How has your career progressed?

I started my career as a Health Care Assistant and, thanks to the unwavering support and guidance from my colleagues at all levels, I was encouraged to pursue further education. With their encouragement, I undertook an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP). Now, I proudly serve as an ACP, working on the Virtual Ward and as part of the Rapid Response team.

The Trust has been instrumental in my professional development. It provided access to comprehensive training modules and supported my educational requests with genuine enthusiasm. This support has been pivotal in boosting my confidence and competence, enabling me to deliver the highest quality of care to my patients.

Moreover, our team’s collective efforts have led to the successful implementation of new services and pathways. These innovations have significantly improved the smooth flow of patients within the organisation, ensuring that we provide efficient and effective care.

What would you say to those thinking of joining?

I’d encourage all nursing professionals to join the Trust. Really, I would! If, like me, you are coming from abroad, the Trust makes the transition so much easier. Despite living 18 miles away from the hospital, I choose to stay here because of the immense job satisfaction. It is comforting to know I work for a Trust that is reliable, professional and, above all, proficient.

When I compare and contrast my experience with friends in other Trusts, there is so much that is better here. Some of my friends have even joined me and become part of the Whit family. The unwavering encouragement and support I receive from my colleagues and the Trust for pursuing higher education is truly rewarding. They motivate me to advance my skills and provide the necessary resources and guidance to help me succeed. This supportive environment has been instrumental in achieving my professional and personal growth.

What's your take on the community you work in?

This part of North London is very vibrant and diverse and, although our work is fast-paced and we are often referred to as the community’s emergency department and we see so many people, I make it a point to understand my patients' lifestyles and cultures. This understanding helps me better address their needs. There hasn't been a single day that I haven't learned something new. The richness of the community’s diversity continuously enhances my ability to provide compassionate and effective care.
