I heard about the coaching programme through a Workforce Race Equality Standard meeting, other staff were undergoing coaching and developing in their careers. I thought “why I don’t give that a try?” 2024

When I entered the programme, it was at a particularly difficult time in my life. I was low in spirit, morale and confidence. My coach really helped me to bring me out of that mindset and helped me see myself for who I really am, and that I had opportunities to continually progress and stretch myself. This change was not something that I could see, but my colleagues saw it too!
My coach then suggested that I looked for another role, I was quite reticent about this, as I was comfortable and liked my previous role. However, after some discussion and encouragement from my coach, I applied for a secondment opportunity; for me this was an ideal situation, because it meant if I did not like the job, I could always go back to my old role.
That was when my transformational journey really happened, I saw my current role being advertised, I applied and was invited to interview. This was my first job interview in 15 years, and I got the job! In my new role I went up a band, and I am really loving it!
I’ve not looked back since then, and think that coaching helped me both personally and professionally.
