Meet our AHPs

Find out what some of our AHPs say about their roles here at Whittington Health, their training, support and development and what it feels like to be a part of our team.

We’re a very friendly team and sociable, too - we have regular events and activities, and we even have social secretaries! This is an important aspect of support as our physios are spread out and it is great to regularly come together and feel part of a team. Lots of our staff become really good friends.

Chance to Progress
I’ve been at Whittington Health for 9 years and the scope for progression has kept me here. I’ve had many opportunities for training internally and externally and the trust is very supportive to those who want to grow. As the Lead Physio for the trust, I oversee around 30 physios, most of whom rotate around locations and teams.

Varied Experience
From the start, Band 5s get experience of working internally and externally; at any one time there are around 15 physios in the hospital. We have a Band 5 support group that is especially helpful when the newly qualified are rotating around the integrated care system. They may work in the community, or maybe at University College London Hospital, which is the base for the North Central London orthopaedic hub. It’s an interesting time, post COVID-19, working as part of the new hub as it gives good exposure to different teams and ways of working.

Preceptorship and Development
Our AHP Preceptorship programme is something all our Band 5s undertake. It’s proving successful - its training element is extensive, and it helps build confidence and skills.

There are opportunities, too, to develop leadership skills with such roles as Student Experience Lead, AHP preceptorship lead, Clinical Manager within ED, Extended Scope Practitioner and Advanced Clinical Practitioner.

Friendly Team
We’re a very friendly team and sociable, too - we have regular events and activities, and we even have social secretaries! This is an important aspect of support as our physios are spread out and it is great to regularly come together and feel part of a team. Lots of our staff become really good friends.
