Ms Jill Lankester
Biography
Jill qualified as both a Registered General Nurse and a Health Visitor. She trained at The Middlesex Hospital, London and then worked there as a Ward Sister. She became interested in diabetes care during her first job as a Staff Nurse, when she spent a year working with Dr Nabarro, a very eminent Diabetologist at The Middlesex Hospital. She then worked in diabetes research at The Whittington Hospital on The United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study.
Jill now leads the diabetes nursing team at The Whittington Hospital. She sees that the main role of the diabetes specialist nurses is to provide education and advice in all aspects of diabetes care to patients and health professionals. She looks after people with diabetes in the Outpatient Department and in the community, both in Islington and in parts of Haringey. She specialises in looking after patients with diabetic renal complications and also children and adolescents with diabetes.
Jill is helping to develop close links between The Whittington Hospital and primary care and is a member of the Islington Diabetes Strategy Group. She hopes that by strengthening these links we will improve the patient’s experience of the care they receive.
Jill has recently been elected as one of the nurse representatives on the Professional Executive Committee of the Islington Primary Care Trust. She hopes to influence the development of high quality services for all patients in the area.
