Eye Surgery at the Whittington's Day Treatment Centre

Eye Surgery at the WhittingtonOn Friday 18 July the Whittington Hospital carried out its first eye operation in its new state of the art Day Treatment Centre. The first patient Mrs Marjorie O'Brien is pictured with Siobhan Harrington director of primary care and Jenny Johnson matron of the day treatment centre prior to having a cataract operation.

Mrs O'Brien said how delighted she is with the new day treatment centre. "I chose to come here as a member of my family was here a few weeks ago and had the most fantastic service".

For a number of years the Whittington has offered a comprehensive outpatient service, but in this latest development the hospital has worked in partnership with the Royal Free Hospital to provide ophthalmology day surgery at the Whittington. Both Trusts are confident that this new development will be of great benefit to the local population who can have access to excellent eye care locally. Siobhan Harrington director of primary care at the Whittington says that over the coming months the two trusts will be working together to expand the service with six operating lists over a week planned .
