Presentation from the Rotary Club of Islington, Highgate and Muswell Hill
The money was raised by the Rotary Club from their annual art show and quiz evening. Dr Deys, who is also a patient of the clinic and a retired local GP, raised part of the money herself with a sponsored slim. She says that as both a patient and referring doctor she has great admiration for the Whittington. "This is only part of the donation - there is more to come" she said.
The funds are going to be used to help the Whittington Insulin Dosing For Active Living (WINDFAL) programme. This is an intensive education programme for people living with type1 diabetes.
Diabetes is a major, growing health problem both locally and throughout the world. One of the aims of the Diabetes Department at the Whittington is to improve the health of people with diabetes by using education and training to help them manage their condition themselves. The work that the Whittington diabetes team does was recognised by a prestigious award to take part in the national Co-creating Health Project, a new programme teaching patients and their doctors and nurses how to work together to manage diabetes.
