Qualified School Nurses are nurses who have completed the specialist post-graduate training. Their aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people aged 5-19 and supporting families. Their day-to-day role varies greatly from area to area and includes undertaking health assessments; signposting children, young people and families to other sources of information; advising and supporting schools with their public health agendas; profiling schools; safeguarding role; training in relation to some conditions for example asthma, anaphylaxis and epilepsy; support in relation to continence issues; drop ins for pupils.

Community School Staff Nurse
Community School Staff Nurses are qualified nurses who have experience with child development and health needs. They work alongside the Specialist School Nurse, delivering the Healthy Child Programme by undertaking health assessments and delivering interventions within the primary school setting. They have a defined caseload of primary schools under the leadership of a Specialist School Nurse and deliver public health training to schools i.e., anaphylaxis, epilepsy, asthma, healthy lifestyle, puberty and dental.
School Nurse Assistant and Team Secretary
School Nurse Assistants are based in health clinics and schools. They are trained to provide basic early years health promotion advice and signpost where appropriate. They are skilled administrators who are competent in signposting families, answering phone-based queries, co-ordinating enuresis clinics and managing day to day administrative tasks. They are also responsible for delivering the national public health Child Measurement Programme. Team Secretaries are responsible for overseeing the School Nurse Assistants and are also involved with admin, managing data and ordering supplies.
