Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED)

The PSED relates only to public sector organisations and places three main aims to improve transparency and inclusion. The three aims place the Trust to have due consideration for are:
- Eliminating unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any other conduct that has been prohibited from Act.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share relevant protected characteristics and people who don't.
- Foster or encourage good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who don't.
Ultimately, as a service provider and employer, the Trust needs to consider what action it takes to meet the needs of protected characteristic groups or reduce the inequality (or the impact) of the disadvantage they experience.
In addition to the PSED, the Trust must publish equality objectives and information demonstrating compliance with the PSED. The information to be published must demonstrate how their policy, procedures and decisions impact their staff and patients/service users.
