Children's outpatients

The children's outpatient clinic is in clinic 4d and is linked to the children's day care unit and Ifor ward.

This busy department sees approximately 13,600 outpatients per year and provides facilities for the comprehensive management of children not requiring hospital admission. In addition to the general paediatric new and follow up clinics and neonatal follow up clinics, regular joint specialist clinics are held.

Daily emergency referral clinics are held to enable general practitioners to obtain a specialist opinion on children with an acute illness.

The emergency 10-12 clinic sees about 3000 children per year. Urgent referrals can be made by GPs. This well-established acute referral clinic runs Monday to Friday. GPs are encouraged to make referrals via a direct telephone line to provide children and their families with timed appointments whenever possible. GP ‘walk in’ referrals to the 10-12 clinic are reserved for children who need to be seen the same day.

In addition to the above clinics, there are specialised clinics done with other consultants within the hospital or with consultants from regional centres.
