Pre-assessment
If you are to come in for elective surgery it may be necessary for you to attend a pre assessment clinic.
This is run by Sister Catherine McNally who will prepare you for the operation. This will probably include blood tests. She will also be able to answer any questions you may have about the operation.
Within the orthopaedic department a Picture Archiving System has been introduced over the last few months. This is a digital form of x-rays whereby the xray is kept on a computer rather than on a xray film. This prevents x-rays getting lost or miss-placed and also allows the doctor to zoom in and out of the xray to gain a clearer or more specific picture of the xray. Eventually all x-rays will be on the computer system however any previous x-rays you have had will remain on film.
