Hero surgeon retires

Mr Alan Wilson, consultant general surgeon at The Whittington retired on Friday 30 March after 24 years at the hospital and 40 in the NHS.
 
Robert Aitken, deputy chairman of Whittington Health and medical director Celia Ingham Clark paid homage to Alan's skills as a surgeon as well as his great teaching ability. Robert Aitken referred to him being a hero, never seeking publicity or glory but being an excellent surgeon and worker.
 
Mr Wilson said that he had greatly enjoyed his time at The Whittington and thanked all the hard working theatre and nursing staff. He ended saying 'long live the Whittington'.
