Whittington Health nurses visit House of Lords
On Thursday 1 December five Whittington Health nurses, Sally King, Joan Myers, Julie Teahan, Lyndon Johnson and Sita Chitambo (pictured) attended a discussion in the House of Lords hosted by Baroness Emberton on frontline nursing care.
They spent two hours in the House of Lords with the main topics being the Royal College of Nursing frontline first campaign, healthcare assistants needing to be registered voluntarily and otherwise and the standards of nursing care.
Whittington Health's Lyndon Johnson said as well as stressing that to enhance patient care matrons and sisters should run their areas including porters and cleaners rather than being drawn into management they also discussed the importance of continuous professional development of nursing and importance of not cutting this.
"We also talked about the numbers of training posts during periods of austerity" he said The lucky five then had a great lunch with the Baroness and a tour of the House of Lords.
