Learning Disabilities - The Whittington Intent

The Whittington Hospital believes that people with learning disabilities should not be disadvantaged in gaining access to high quality assessment, treatment and support for their health problems. All our patients are unique, with individual needs that we try our best to meet. This applies equally to those with learning disabilities, but extra care must be taken to find out what these needs are, and how they can best be met, as the person may have problems communicating this to us.

We work closely with the local specialist services for people who have learning disabilities and have developed a strategy to help people who have learning disabilities and their families when they come into hospital. We now have a learning disability working group, and a learning disability liaison nurse based at the Whittington.
