Staff and passengers at Highbury and Islington underground station delivered a festive boost to Whittington Health in the form of a special charity collection to raise vital funds for the Trust.
The team of colleagues, led by Ashiq Hussain, Station Supervisor, at Highbury and Islington underground station, raised over £1,500 from passengers at their annual Christmas charity collection which took place on 11 - 12 December.
Speaking of his motivation to organise the collection, Ash, 61, from Enfield, explains: “Christmas is a special time of year and my colleagues and I like to do our bit by giving back to the community during the festive season. Whittington Health is a charity close to the team’s heart, not only because they saved my life when I was suffering from a serious liver condition but also because they provided specialist care to a colleague’s premature daughter. Without Whittington Health I wouldn’t be here now and I’m so pleased we have raised such a brilliant amount for the Trust.”
The money raised by the team will help Whittington Health provide cutting edge services and support to patients and their families across Islington and Haringey.
Graham Brogden, Head of Fundraising at Whittington Health, added: “We are all very grateful to Ash and his colleagues at Highbury and Islington underground station for taking the time to raise funds for us during such a busy period. The funds raised will help us to continue to support local people to live longer, healthier lives and I would like to thank staff and passengers alike for their generosity in raising such an incredible amount.”
