Whittington Health played host to over 100 guests as part of a special Open Day to coincide with Open House London.

The event, which was officially opened by Councillor Una O'Halloran, Mayor of Islington, and Councillor Stephen Mann, Mayor of Haringey marks the first time that Whittington Health has thrown open its doors to the community for six years.

Also in attendance at the event was Labour leader and MP for Islington North, Jeremy Corbyn, who spent time speaking to staff and guests, as well as enjoying a special dance performance organised by Whittington Health’s learning disabilities team.

As part of the Open Day Whittington Health gave families and the local community the opportunity to find out more about health services many of which are not seen by the public.

With over 50 health and wellbeing stalls guests also enjoyed a series of free health checks, mindfulness and meditation sessions, as well as a chance to sample of some of the food served to patients on the hospital’s wards.

Also taking place on the day was the judging of Whittington Health’s first art competition which saw twelve lucky winners scoop a range of prizes including an iPad, tickets to watch Arsenal FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC and a range of art supplies.

Speaking about the Open Day, Steve Hitchins, Chairman of Whittington Health, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people come together to join us for this special celebration.

“A big part of the day was the prize giving ceremony for the winners of our art competition. The standard of entries this year was incredibly high and we were delighted that so many young and budding artists took part. Over the coming months all entries received will be on display at the hospital to make the environment that little bit brighter for those coming to visit.”
