Next Steps After Diagnosis

Following this assessment, you will receive a report describing your child’s strengths, differences and difficulties and how the conclusion was reached. This report may also include strategies that could support your child at home/nursery/school.
We will share this report with your GP, nursery/school and Haringey Autism team with your permission.
Your child will then be discharged from our Social Communication & Autism Team, but may still be followed up by the doctors if there are any medical concerns and will continue to be seen by SLT specialists, if appropriate.
Confidentiality
Everything you tell us or that we write down will remain private and confidential with your child’s NHS records. We will always ask your permission before sharing information with anyone working outside our service.
The only time where we may need to share information without your permission would be if we learned that either you, your child, or someone else were at significant risk of harm. Even in this situation, we will always let you know what information we have shared and with whom.
Please tell us if you have sensitive information to be kept confidential and we will always try to respect your wishes.
Autism information video
Following diagnosis, you may have questions about what Autism is and how does it impact on your child’s development. In Part 1 of these videos, we share with you our understanding of Autism, how it explains some of the behaviours you see in your child, and some top tips in making communication more effective with autistic people.
In Part 2, we invite you to see the world from your autistic child’s perspective. We will talk about a key factor behind most behaviours we see, and share a tool called the ‘iceberg’ with you in understanding your child’s behaviours. Following these videos, we invite you to book and attend one of the face-to-face group sessions running by us and the Haringey Language and Autism Support Team (LAST), where we can discuss and explore any questions you might have around your child’s autism diagnosis and behaviours, and you will get to meet other parents on a similar journey with you too.
To sign up for upcoming face-to-face group sessions, head to our Eventbrite page.
