Health Visitors and School Nurses

Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (Health Visitors and School Nurses), Community Staff Nurses and Nursery Nurses work with babies, children, young people and their families across the diverse boroughs of Haringey, Barnet and Islington.
Health Visitors will have first gained their PIN as a registered nurse or midwife and then undertaken the NMC-approved training programme in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN). Health Visitors lead the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme, working with families antenatally until children reach the age of five.
They support families, focus on local health priorities, help reduce health inequalities and help improve health outcomes for children and families. They work in partnership with other services, including GPs, midwifery, speech and language therapists, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Social Care and Early Years services, Children’s Centres and Family Hubs.
School Nurses will have first gained their PIN as a registered nurse or midwife and then undertaken the NMC-approved training programme in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN). They deliver the Healthy Child Programme to children and young people attending local schools and also work in partnership with GPs, social care, CAMHS, alternative school providers and Targeted Youth Services.
Community Staff Nurses work with teams that support children, young people and their families. They are supported to develop skills within public health nursing and to apply for the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing qualification.
Nursery Nurses also work with our teams and assist with health promotion activities and child health and development assessments. They work with key care partners in Early Years, Family Support, Speech & Language and CAMHS.
