Dr Nikiphorou completed her medical studies in 2004 at University College London having also obtained a First Class Honours for her Intercalated BSc in Physiology, as well as a British Pharmacological Society Award and a Wellcome Trust Vacation Scholarship for her BSc Research on Mineralocorticoid Receptors.  Having completed a diverse medical rotation in London as a junior doctor, she moved to the East of England for her rheumatology training, completing this at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.  During this time she was awarded a CLRN Research Associate Fellowship and also took two years to complete her MD research back at University College London, examining orthopaedic intervention as a surrogate marker of joint destruction and failure in RA. With the support of a travelling fellowship from the Royal Society of Medicine, she undertook a fellowship in Chicago, followed by 3 months in Finland on a European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR)-funded educational training bursary, undertaking RA-related research.  She is involved in a number of national and international rheumatology societies and initiatives and has been an invited speaker and scientific abstract presenter in several national and international conferences.  She is an enthusiastic medical educator and has been involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate training and assessment for years and has also contributed to educational material online and in books.

Special Interests

Clinical epidemiological, outcomes research. Clinical & academic interest in rheumatoid arthritis and the impact of modern treatments on disease course and outcomes. Interest in spondyloarthropathy & connective tissue disease. Particular interest in medical education with relevant qualifications.
