We’re excited to share that the refurbishment of Theatres 1, 2 and the recovery area has now been completed.
On Wednesday, we held a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the project’s completion. We heard from Project Lead, Bryce Wilson who spoke about the successes and challenges of the project, and our Acting CEO Dr Clare Dollery, who praised all involved for their collaborative efforts.

Here’s are some key project successes:
- Upgraded the Theatres ducting: Clean air is essential in surgical spaces so the team took down the entire ceiling in the area to upgrade the ventilation.
- Installed an ultra-clean canopy in Theatre 1: Positioned directly above where a patient lies during surgery, this canopy supports an infection-free environment that is essential for trauma and spinal procedures.
- Upgraded fire safety systems: ensuring that everyone can be evacuated safely in the unlikely event of a fire.
This complex project involved many moving parts taking place in a very busy, and critical service. We’re grateful to the dedicated teams both inside and outside our organisation who brought it all together.
