On Monday (1 July) we had two special arrivals in our birth centre. We welcomed Arsenal Football Club’s mascot Gunner Gunnersaurus Rex who came to meet the first baby of the day and to present her with a special gift.

The giant green dinosaur, who was discovered as an egg during the digging of the foundations of Arsenal’s Highbury ground paid us a visit as part of the celebrations for the launch of the club’s new kit.

He presented baby Maria, our first arrival of the day, with a baby sized replica of the new kit as well as leaving kits as a special memento of the launch for all of the Whittington Babies born later on in the day.

As well as meeting Maria and mum Claudia, Gunner was welcomed by Michelle Johnson, our chief Nurse, who said: “Arsenal has always been a great supporter of the trust and it is lovely that they have included us in their celebrations. The tiny kits are very sweet and I hope the day’s new arrivals will wear them with pride and keep them as a special memento of their arrival into the world here at Whittington Health.”

The kit was launched alongside the film, ‘This is home’ [YouTube may be blocked on your trust issued device] which sends a strong message about belonging. The film shows how players from around the world feel so at home at Arsenal and in London, they’ve become part of the fabric of the club and the community, adopting the accents of north London and real Arsenal fans.

We’d like to make clear for the avoidance of doubt and to avoid any North London strife that we also love Spurs who are also great supporters of ours  :-)
