Rapid Access Chest Pain Service
The Rapid Access Chest Pain Service provides rapid assessment and diagnosis of patients with new onset of chest pain and also for patients with existing angina who have a change in symptoms. All patients attending the clinic will have an electrocardiogram (please see Cardiac Investigation Unit for details) and may be need to stay for up to two hours whilst investigations are being undertaken.
New onset of chest pain is a common complaint that warrants specialist assessment to determine its cause.

What is Angina?
Angina is an uncomfortable feeling or pain in the chest. It usually feels like a heaviness or tightness in the centre of the chest which may spread to the arms, neck, jaw, back or stomach. In some people the pain or tightness may affect only the arm, neck, stomach or jaw. Symptoms usually fade in a few minutes. Some people describe angina as a dull, persistent ache. For some people the tightness is severe; for others it is not much more than a mild discomfort.
