Your Pregnancy - Maternity Triage
If you need an urgent assessment by a midwife or doctor that is outside your routine antenatal or postnatal appointment, you will be invited to attend maternity triage.
You can refer yourself by calling the triage direct line 0207 288 5880 or you may be referred by your doctor or midwife.
When should you call maternity triage?
- If you think you are in labour
- Vaginal bleeding
- If you think your waters have broken
- If you concerned about your baby's movements
- If you feel unwell
However if you have any other concerns please do call maternity triage for advice.
Triage is open 24/7 and during working hours (weekdays 9am to 5pm), triage is staffed by an experienced midwife and a specialist doctor. After 5pm the unit is staffed by a midwife with access to the medical team as required.
Waiting times will vary depending on how busy we are, but we aim to have an initial assessment within 30 minutes of your arrival. We will take a short history and the reason for your visit. You will then be asked to wait in the waiting area for further assessment and treatment.
This system ensures that you will be seen based on clinical priority. It is important to remember this, as you may notice that you are waiting a shorter or longer time than others.
Please contact your community midwife for blood test results - the midwife in maternity triage is unable to give blood test results over the telephone.
