Camden, Islington, Haringey and Enfield have some of the highest levels of inequality in the country, with socially diverse, multi-cultural and ageing populations.
Socially excluded and disadvantaged people suffer the effects of poor oral health with the added disadvantage of poor access to dental care and preventive services.
Whittington Health Dental Services are actively working across Haringey , Enfield, Camden and Islington to promote good dental health and reduce inequalities. For example we run oral health promotion programmes for :

National Smile Month Competition
Oral diseases and tooth decay are largely preventable. Developing good oral health behaviours during the early years of life can help establish prevention for life. Normally the Oral Health Promotion team would be visiting local primary schools to help children learn how to brush their teeth effectively. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and social distancing this may not be possible for some time. The team wanted to ensure children are still able to learn about what it takes to have a healthy smile.
The Oral Health Promotion team from Whittington Health are asking local children to design a healthy smile for their National Smile Month competition.

How to improve your dental health:
- Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste
- Cut down on how often you have sugary snacks and drinks
- Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables
- Stop smoking
- Keep within sensible limits when drinking alcohol
- Go to the dentist on a regular basis.
- Young children should go as soon as their first tooth appears.
