Whittington Health NHS provides hospital and community care services to 500,000 people living in Islington and Haringey as well as other London boroughs including Barnet, Enfield, Camden and Hackney. As one organisation providing both hospital and community services, we are known as an ‘integrated care organisation’. As the biggest employer in the area, with over 4,400 staff, we deliver healthcare on the acute hospital site, and through a variety of other channels including visits to patients’ homes.

Whittington Hospital Charitable Funds raises money to help enhance education, equipment and facilities across Whittington Health NHS for the benefit of all our patients, visitors, colleagues and the wider community. As a registered charity (no. 1056452), we manage and distribute donations to reflect our clinical strategy and mission of helping local people live longer and healthier lives by providing safe, personal, coordinated care for the community we serve.

Recent fundraising has included major appeals for projects such as a new Thalassemia unit; a cancer patient information project; new equipment for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and most recently for the care of older people. We are very grateful for all donations from past and present patients, their family, friends, colleagues and from across the whole community and business world.

Supporters can select a department, service or ward that is close to their heart or the general fund so that the whole organisation can benefit from their generosity. All donations are carefully recorded, thanked and allocated to the appropriate fund. The Charitable Funds Committee is chaired by Whittington Health's Non-Exec Director, Tony Rice and includes staff, shadow governors and grateful patients. The committee oversee expenditure in addition to planning how to raise income through various fundraising initiatives and campaigns.

Why fundraise for Whittington Health's charity?

Although the Whittington receives funding from the exchequer to provide healthcare for the local population, sadly there is often a shortfall. There are community projects and vital equipment which is desperately needed, but outside the limit of the NHS budgets. To keep pace with modern advances in technology and to provide improved services, there is very much a need to go that extra mile which is often met by fundraising donations. Our aim is to continue to provide services to a high standard, but to achieve our goals we need to raise valuable and much–needed funds.
