Our Commitment to Equality

At Whittington Health we are keen to promote equality throughout the organisation and for all of our services. All our patients and our staff need to be treated equally in dignity and respect. The service we provide at Whittington Health aims to be fair, accessible and appropriate for all our patients.
Our NHS Trust has a highly skilled and diverse workforce. We believe it is important to have a diverse workforce in order to best represent and reflect the local communities that we serve. This enables us to provide the best possible healthcare for our local community.
Some of our current priorities and objectives with regards to equality include:
  • a commitment to the reduction of health inequalities in our communities
  • ensuring there is equality throughout the organisation, with employees in senior management and leadership posts who are representative of the diversity of our workforce as a whole.

Promoting equality diversity and human rights

The Trust has an equality policy which is continually monitored to meet our statutory duties under the Equality Act. As part of our responsibility to furthering and promoting equality and inclusion, like all NHS organisations we aim to publish information demonstrating compliance with the general duty and set objectives as part of our clinical strategy.

Equality Delivery System 2 (EDS 2)

We also use the principles of the Equality Delivery System 2, a scheme set up to improve equality in the health service. By using the Equality Delivery System the organisation will be able to meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and be better placed to meet the registration requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC). EDS 2 concentrates on achieving the following four equalities outcomes:
  • Better health outcomes for all
  • Improved patient access and experience
  • Empowered, engaged and well supported staff
  • Inclusive leaders at all levels

Responding to feedback
